Woosa has been around for 3 years now. VidaXL is one of the first partners that Woosa started working with in 2018. Despite the fact that we have continuously updated the first version of the WooCommerce plugin, it was time for a new version with a completely new logic: vidaXL 2.0.

In version 2.0 we have mainly listened to our users. The focus has therefore mainly been on updating the stock and other important product information such as prices.

1. Stock updating is essential

VidaXL is one of the biggest dropshipping companies. They have welcomed many webshops that are using their dropshipping program. That also means that sales are going fast. Products can be sold out within hours. In that case, the webshop does not want to miss out and does not want to have to sell “no” to their visitors.

In the first version of the vidaXL WooCommerce plugin, updating the stock could sometimes take longer than 60 minutes. As a result, some webshops regularly had to sell the unwanted “no”.

The vidaXL 2.0 WooCommerce plugin updates the stock within a maximum of 5 minutes. We call it careful: real-time updating of your stock. We cannot promise that you will never have to say “no” again, but it will at least be limited to a few times.

2. Overloading your website is not an option

A product does not only have textual content, but also images. These are extra important for a higher conversion. The more clearly a product is shown in the image, the sooner visitors will decide to make a purchase.

VidaXL has an average of 5 images per product. Despite the fact that this is positive, it also immediately entails a challenge. Suppose you import 10,000 products, this means that 50,000 images must also be imported. You can imagine that this is quite a process. Not to mention the pressure on your servers.

In version 2.0 of the vidaXL WooCommerce plugin we load the product images from external servers. This means there is no extra load on your servers, but you can still show all product images on the product page.

If you still want to have the images on your own server, you can easily download them with one click via WooCommerce > Settings > VidaXL > Tools.

3. Automation is necessary

Dropshipping is more popular than ever, because of the many “gurus” who promote the business model. Goals like achieving financial freedom or being able to work anywhere in the world are associated with dropshipping.

However, if you want to achieve this, you will have to automate your webshop. It cannot be the case that you are enjoying in Dubai and the orders are not shipped or delivered.

Version 1.0 of our vidaXL WooCommerce plugin already automated this process. However, we have made some improvements in version 2.0, making this process faster and more stable. You will also receive feedback from the Track & Trace code. This allows you to easily inform your customer about the status of the shipment.

4. Flexibility: determine your own dropshipping products

VidaXL has dozens of categories and more than 50,000 products available for dropshipping. However, it is not wise to take over and sell all these 50,000 products 1-on-1. That is why it is possible – based on the product category – to make a choice which products you want to sell.

This option was already included in version 1.0, but has been further optimized in version 2.0. More about that in the next section.

5. No more stuck product imports

Annoying, isn’t it? You want to start with importing products from vidaXL to WooCommerce and it continuously crashes. There are many causes for a product import to crash. This can be both WordPress and server related. Looking for the cause can sometimes feel like a needle in a haystack, especially if you have no knowledge of this.

Therefore it was necessary to make significant improvements to the import process. We have opted for: batch processing.

In the general settings of the vidaXL WooCommerce plugin 2.0 you will see an extra parameter: maximum batch. The default setting for this is 100. Depending on your WordPress and server configuration, you can increase this.

What exactly does batch processing do?

The import of products is done per batch. In the case of the default settings, this is a maximum of 100 products per batch. There is a maximum delay of 1 minute between each batch processing. This way we prevent the import of products from getting stuck. The moment a product import fails for whatever reason, it will be recognized and the batch will resume as soon as possible.

6. Every change to a product counts

Although stock is the most relevant parameter in the case of dropshipping, there are of course other product changes. Think of price, images, specifications and more.

In version 1.0 of the vidaXL WooCommerce plugin, we had to compare the full XML with the products in WooCommerce with every update. A very time-consuming process with a lot of pressure on your servers. Fortunately, we optimized that in version 2.0!

In version 2.0 we keep track of when a product is changed on the vidaXL side. The webhook for making changes runs every 5 minutes. In this way, the webhook knows exactly which products need to be updated and which not. This makes a significant difference in calls and therefore the pressure on your servers is limited.

7. Making a profit is more important than selling

Finally, we have kept the settings regarding prices. This means that you can determine your selling price in different ways:

    • percentage margin on top of the purchase price
    • fixed amount on top of the purchase price
    • use advise price from vidaXL

In this way you can distinguish yourself from the competition and determine how much profit you make. Very handy!

Migrating vidaXL from 1.0 to 2.0

We have written an article where we explain how to migrate the vidaXL plugin from 1.0 to 2.0. You can check it here.

If you don’t want the hassle of migrating, Woosa can migrate for you instead. This means the migration will be done within 16 business hours.
